From July 17 to August 16, 2026, the art project "Asagaya Quest" was presented using digital signage within JR Asagaya Station. This project redefined the station's digital signage from a mere advertising medium to a platform connecting the local community and station users, aiming to revitalize the surrounding area and offer new experiential value to commuters.
The initiative involved collaboration with six shopping districts and 32 stores around Asagaya Station, aggregating their attractions and information into digital artworks. The contemporary art circle EXCALIBUR participated in planning and production, while NEORT supervised and distributed the content. The signage displayed a map-like interface highlighting the shopping areas and stores. Users could access a dedicated webpage via their smartphones to launch a WebAR experience, which overlaid digital art onto the real-world scenery, allowing them to explore a digital world around Asagaya Station.
Positioned as an experimental approach to explore new potentials of digital signage in everyday public spaces, the project sought to transcend the role of advertising media. By enhancing connections with the local community, it aimed to contribute to economic revitalization, express regional uniqueness, and foster civic pride. Additionally, the project incorporated multifaceted evaluations of user behavior changes and engagement with the artworks, striving to develop an operational model that maximizes the value of digital signage.
