始まりと終わりを映す短編映像の饗宴──「映像作家100人 × NEORT++ 短編映像上映会 SHORT FILMS」

2026年6月28日と29日、東京のデジタルアートギャラリー NEORT++ にて、「映像作家100人」とのコラボレーションによる短編映像上映会「SHORT FILMS」が開催されました。期間中にオンラインプラットフォーム neort.io に投稿された多彩な作品群から厳選された11作品が、ギャラリーの空間を舞台に放映され、観客は時間の流れを意識しながら映像と向き合う貴重な体験を得ました。

この企画の着想は、これまでNEORT++で多く紹介されてきた「始まりも終わりも持たない」映像作品への反響から生まれました。従来の展示では、空間に静かに佇む絵画のような映像が中心でしたが、本企画では「始まり」と「終わり」を持つ短編映像に焦点を当て、物語性や時間の経過を伴う映像体験を改めて提示することが議論されました。こうした映像は映画やアニメ、YouTube動画など現代の生活に深く根付いていますが、アートとしての短編映像を鑑賞する場を設けることで、映像メディアの多様性と視聴体験の可能性を問い直すことが目的とされました。

準備段階では、neort.ioに投稿された数多の作品から、選考委員による厳正な審査を経て11作品が選出されました。上映作品には、中村匠吾《COMET》や外山光男《小さなサーカス》、Keita Onishiの《Mind Train / Cornelius MV》、ワタナベサオリ《ONE another》など、多彩なジャンルとアプローチが並びました。上映は6回に分けて行われ、各回約50分のプログラムで構成され、観客は短編映像が持つ独自のリズムと物語の完結性を体感しました。

In late June 2026, the digital art gallery NEORT++ in Tokyo hosted the "100 Video Artists × NEORT++ SHORT FILMS" screening event, showcasing eleven carefully selected short films from submissions on the neort.io platform. This event shifted focus from the gallery’s usual presentation of non-linear, spatially static video art to works with clear beginnings and endings, emphasizing narrative and temporal progression.

The initiative arose from a desire to revisit the short film format as an artistic medium, distinct from its prevalent presence in cinema, animation, and online video culture. By curating a space where these time-bound narratives could be experienced as art, the event challenged traditional perceptions of video art’s temporal and spatial dimensions.

Selected works ranged widely in style and theme, including pieces like Shogo Nakamura’s "COMET" and Saori Watanabe’s "ONE another." The screenings were organized into six sessions, each lasting approximately fifty minutes, allowing audiences to engage deeply with the rhythm and closure inherent in short-form storytelling.

At the core of this project lies the exploration of video as a time-based art form, where the progression from start to finish enriches the viewer’s experience beyond spatial contemplation. The event has been recognized as a pivotal moment in expanding the understanding of video art’s narrative potential.
